Ardent feels like a good fit for us – the team make us feel like we are important to them, they understand our business and the challenges we face. We were taken to an excellent reference site which gave us the confidence that we had found the right partner.
What We Did
Based in Tamworth, Staffordshire Percy Lane Products employs over 160 staff in the manufacture and distribution of custom-designed product solutions across the UK and European rail and bus market. Early in 2015 the company embarked upon a programme of modernisation across its manufacturing plant and a review of its technology strategy. With an aging, heavily bespoked ERP software system at its core, linking to a number of disparate solutions, Percy Lane looked to the five leading ERP vendors in the UK. Sean Brophy, IT Administrator at Percy Lane and a key project lead comments, “It no longer became practical to develop our incumbent solution; it was too costly and labour intensive to write even basic requirements. We recognise that modern ERP has everything we need as standard and will be more cost effective in the long term.”
The Percy Lane project team set out by interviewing managers across the organisation to develop a wish list of requirements before reviewing each software solution on the shortlist. Microsoft Dynamics AX was selected because it offered the company the comprehensive functionality it required as standard. “We were confident it could do everything we needed easily and straight out of the box. But more importantly it was a solution that could grow with us as and when we wanted to explore new processes such as bar coding and HR.”
The company selected to implement Dynamics AX with local Microsoft partner, Ardent Solutions because it felt that there was a good cultural fit between the teams. On visiting a reference site the Percy Lane team was impressed with the rapport that Ardent had built on site with both the Dynamics AX project team and the day to day users. “Ardent feels like a good fit for us – the team make us feel like we are important to them, they understand our business and the challenges we face. We were taken to an excellent reference site which gave us the confidence that we had found the right partner.”
Phase One of the implementation with Ardent Solutions is now underway as Percy Lane look to replace and modernise its basic order to delivery model.
